When do you need to look for help?
The first and often hardest step is that of reflection – acceptance that you have a drug or alcohol addiction. If you’re reading this page, then you may have already recognised you have an issue with the level of drink or drugs that you consume. If you’re unsure as to whether you have an addiction or not, you should consider the issues in your life and if there is any correlation with your drug and alcohol use. If you believe that it influences your life on a daily basis, a drug or alcohol treatment programme may be needed to help you to take back control of your life.
We will perform an initial assessment over the telephone. We will not judge you for your issues and our professionals will help you to understand your issues. We can then take a look at the next steps of your treatment. Rehab isn’t cheap, though we are very reasonably priced, but Action Rehab can provide you with a rehab clinic near you with instant admission.
How does drug and alcohol rehab work?
After the initial consultation with our staff, you may well be diagnosed as suffering from a drug or alcohol addiction. If this is the case, there’s no wait for our services and we can begin to treat you without delay. We will then perform a second consultation which we will use to completely get to know you.
This will be a physical and psychological evaluation. Whilst many addicts are suffering with their physical health (both drugs and alcohol when consumed to excess take a toll on the body) there are often underlying and undiagnosed mental health conditions too. It’s important we diagnose the root cause of your addiction as it will need to be treated.
The first part of your treatment will be a detox. This is the most uncomfortable part of your treatment. As your drug or alcohol consumption is cut, your body will react with a series of withdrawal symptoms. Examples of these are anxiety attacks, excessive sweating and trembling and they can be very dangerous. This is why a detox in our residential rehab clinic in Reading is an ideal place to undergo a detox. Our medical staff will monitor your progress 24 hours a day and can issue you with prescription medication in order to that that bit of pressure off you if that’s required.
Your treatment programme
Once your body is free of the toxins caused by a drug or alcohol addiction, we will be able to progress with the rest of your treatment. We will continue to help you to improve your physical health with access to relaxation and exercise classes such as yoga. We believe in the use of holistic therapies like these as they work on both your body and mind.
You will spend a lot of time undergoing therapy. We have psychologists, psychotherapists and our addiction specialists on hand to make sure your mind follows the same levels of cleansing as your body has. Therapies, such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) will help us heal any underlying mental health issues and to address the root cause of your issue. This is one of the biggest benefits of residential rehab. The root cause of your illness is rarely fully treated when your drug and alcohol rehab is performed on an outpatient basis.
Therapy is not just on an individual basis. You’ll be encouraged to join in with group therapy. Whilst not for everyone (and remember, you will be treated as an individual at all times during your time in Action Rehab’s rehab clinic) group therapy is an excellent way for you to open up about your problems.
You will be able to share your experiences with other recovering addicts and you will also have the chance to share coping techniques. You won’t be alone at any stage of your journey. This also provides the opportunity to create a network of support for when you leave our care.
When your treatment is completed, you’ll be able to look ahead with a fresh perspective and a new mentality. This will prepare you for a future free of the dark clouds of a drug or alcohol addiction.
Secondary care in Reading
However, when you leave our care is where you will need to work the hardest. Addiction is incurable. It can only be contained, and you can learn how to do that with our rehab programme.
But you will need to put into practice all the good habits you’ve experienced during your time with us. It’s vital for you to avoid triggers that have previously caused you to abuse drugs or alcohol. You will also need to make choices to avoid places or people who have done the same in the past.
Our comprehensive aftercare plan will help you through the first 12 months after you leave Action Rehab. Statistically, you are at the most danger of suffering from a relapse in this year period after successfully completing rehab treatment. You’ll have access to a 24-hour helpline to help you to continue to abstain and you will be encouraged to join support groups in the Reading area to help you to continue to share your experiences with others.
Please take that brave first step today and call Action Rehab on 0151 268 6992.
