Causes of drug or alcohol addiction
Addiction isn’t something that affects everybody that uses drink or drugs, so the pertinent question is why does addiction only take a hold of some people?
For those who develop an addiction, there generally are other issues bubbling away below the surface. Mental health issues are among the most commonly reported triggers for addiction. People often turn to drugs and alcohol as an escape and to hide away from life problems they may have.
This is why recovery is so tough. It’s not a case of simply being able to stop consuming drugs or alcohol. An important part of your treatment with Action Rehab is identifying and addressing the root cause of your addiction. This needs to be addressed before any real progress will be seen.
Signs of drug or alcohol addiction
Addiction will always take a significant toll on the body and the mind. Physically and psychologically, you’re putting your body through great strain and this will always manifest in health problems at some point. You will likely notice that you often feel in pain or feel ill – this is the beginning of something that could end up making a much more significant impact on your life.
Those who are under the influence are also much more likely to be involved in accidents or engage in violence with others. Physical damage may well be the least of your problems however. You may find yourself distanced from friends and family, not able to perform your job to a high standard or having severe money struggles. These problems can have a huge toll on your mental health.
If you have been to see your doctor and they have suggested that your health problems are because of a drug or alcohol addiction, then this needs to be dealt with as a matter of urgency.
Rock bottom is a different point for every person, but it can occur when addicts lose their job or their family and friends and are unsure of what to do next. Some addicts turn to a life of crime. Things then get exponentially worse and recovery becomes even harder, but with the help of Action Rehab, it isn’t impossible.
Our rehab centre
The concept of coming to a treatment centre for a period of rehab undoubtedly raises feelings of apprehension and anxiety about what rehab is like.
Our rehab facilities are comfortable and luxurious. We ask for you to commit yourself to 28 days so you can be given a comprehensive, individually bespoke treatment programme. This may seem a long time but we will need to assess you and most of our clients undergo a period of detox. This can take up to two weeks and the subsequent withdrawal symptoms can be very unpleasant and need to be carefully managed.
Our rehab programme will treat you as an individual. It will consist of treatments that help you specifically, but they include group sessions, rehab therapy sessions and relapse management (aftercare.)
On completion of your stay at rehab, our aftercare team will prepare you for your return to your normal life. Studies show that the first twelve months after rehab are the most important and where a recovering addict is at their most vulnerable and are at their most likely to relapse.
This will involve plenty of advice on avoiding triggers in the future, developing positive habits and joining local recovery support groups to continue to get support from fellow recovering addicts. You’ll also have access to our 24/7 helpline, which you can turn to if you need help or are concerned about a potential relapse.
If you feel ready to get started with a treatment programme of rehab, then we are ready to help you. We can’t take this step for you. Once you call us on 0151 268 6992 then we will be able to help you towards a brighter path free of the clutches of drug or alcohol addiction.
